What Thoughts Emerge When You Think About Money?
Posted Under: Create Amazing Relationships,Self-Improvement
You get a new bill in the mail. What are your first thoughts? When money enters the conversation, how do you respond? Do you have an emotional response? Do you feel pressure somewhere in your body? What happens to you when something involves spending money?
Money often brings about feelings of fear and lack. This was my own experience for a long time. While there was always enough to get by, there was always just enough to get by. This is the definition of survival.
You can succeed at survival, but is survival success?
~ The Journey Called YOU: A Roadmap to Self-Discovery and Acceptance
Depending upon your viewpoint, survival is good. If you are not at a point in your life where you are “getting by” then having enough is a good thing.
But on the continuum, surviving is not thriving.
To thrive requires a different mindset with different thoughts and feelings associated with money. They talk differently about money and have a different emotional response when dealing with money issues.
Money is not powerful. People are powerful. And you have a lot more power than you realize when it comes to your money.
Money is used as an exchange of value for the services you render as an employee. Most of us work for a living and that means that you receive payment in the form of money and benefits in exchange for the value of the work you perform.
What you do with your money is a reflection of how you feel about the value of your work.
If you spend it frivolously, if you mistreat it by crinkling it up in your pocket, spending more than what you make, buying unnecessary items, giving it away when you don’t have enough for yourself, or buying lavish gifts for self or others, you are not respecting yourself or the effort you made in order to receive that money.
This disrespect will not bring you the happiness you desire. You cannot buy happiness or self-esteem; you CAN however, treat your money with respect and, by doing so, experience increased happiness and feel more positive about yourself which increases your self-esteem.
Notice how you refer to money in your conversations and how you think about money whenever you pull out your wallet. Is there fear? What’s the fear about? Are you respecting yourself by spending your money in this way or is there some other reason for making this purchase?
Enjoy the inquiry.
